Jeff's Lacrosse Beginnings
Jeff was introduced to lacrosse at age 12 in 1967 by his teacher at South
Fremantle High School. He later joined the East Fremantle club, playing his
first senior game in 1972. From 1973 to 1995, he played A Grade/State League for
East Fremantle, contributing to 13 premiership flags in 23 years.
Player Accolades & State Representation
Jeff's won the Association's Regal Cup (Best Player) in 1979, 1986, and 1987, and the Lacrosse Australia Isaachsen Trophy (Best Player) in 1987. He was twice awarded the Don Hobbs Trophy for Best Player at the Australian Lacrosse Championship (1981, 1983).
He represented the Western Australian senior team for 19 years (1977-1985, 1987-1991, 1995), serving as captain/co-captain eight times. Jeff was selected for the Australian Lacrosse Championship All-star team multiple times (1977, 1979, 1981-1985, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1995).
International Recognition & Legacy
Jeff's international career includes touring with the Australian team in 1976 and participating in four World Championships (1978, 1982, 1986, 1990), co-captaining three of them. He was also part of the 1984 Australian team at the Pre-Olympic World Tournament in LA. At the 1982 World Lacrosse Championship in Baltimore, USA, Jeff was honored as the Best and Fairest Player, and he was selected for the All-World Team at the 1986 Toronto, Canada Championship.
In 2000, Jeff was named a midfield player in the WA Lacrosse Association Millennium Team, recognizing him as one of the best players of the modern era. In 2004, he was inducted into the Western Australian Institute of Sport Hall of Champions, becoming only the second lacrosse player to receive this honor. His achievements across four World Championships solidify his status as one of Australia's most outstanding lacrosse players of his time.
