Born 14th of May 1942

 

Dons father, Hugh, re-established the East Fremantle Lacrosse Club in 1927 and Don followed his father into a playing career with the club.

First in D Grade at 12 years of age.

 

He had a long and distinguished club playing career as a defence player until 1990.

 

Don played first for Western Australia in the Colts under 21 years team in 1963, captain, followed by senior team in 1965, vice-captain, and 1978.

Australian team selection as a defence player was in the 1965 Australian Carnival in the All-Australian Team then the 1967 World Series team.

 

He was East Fremantle President 1968, 1969  and 1988. Club Secretary 1972 and 1984.

Western Australian Lacrosse Association President in 1982, 1996,1997 and 2000.

Australian Lacrosse Council director 1984 to 1987 and Chairperson of the Western Australian Lacrosse Foundation 1992 to 1995.

Served as President and Secretary of the Kuljak Lacrosse Club.

Honoured with East Fremantle Lacrosse Club Life membership in 1976, Western Australian Lacrosse Association Life Member 1993 and Australian Lacrosse Council  Certificate of Merit 1981 then a Life Member Fellow.

Manager of the Australian Men’s team that competed at the 2002 World Series.

 

Don was selected in Western Australian Lacrosse Association Millennium Team as a defence player in the year 2000. The Western Australian Lacrosse Association named the team to celebrate the beginning of a new millennium and acknowledge the best position players of the modern era which was defined as when the USA university lacrosse teams visited Australia in 1959 and Australian adopted the USA rules.

 

Sports West awarded Don the Service to Sport May Campbell Medal in 2005 which recognizes the contribution made by an individual to sporting organisation through long and outstanding service.

 

The highlight of Don’s lacrosse administration life was his being Chairperson of the highly successful World Series Committee 1990 when Western Australia hosted the World Series of Men’s Lacrosse. The event was a great organisational success on the playing field and an even greater financial success for the Western Australian Lacrosse Association.

 

 A talented lacrosse defence player and someone who made an even greater contribution to Western Australian lacrosse as an administrator.
